« Remembrance Ceremony »

In the Royal Latin School, on the 7th of November, it was “the time to remember”. The official “time to remember” is actually the 11th of November. However the ceremony occurred on the 7th in this school. Faithful to their traditions, everybody, the teachers but also the students and even the French “visitors”, wore dark clothes and their “Poppies”. A “Poppy”  is a little red flower  you can pin to your jacket. It stands for all the people who have lost their lives during the First World War. All the students of the school got together in the canteen room. The year 13 were on the stage and I was with them because my pen-friend was in this year group. Everybody was quiet, there was an absolute silence in the room. And the ceremony finally began. Policemen, veterans, soldiers came on stage. The Headteacher opened this really formal remembrance ceremony with a speech. After that, the veterans and students read soldiers' diaries and speeches in order to pay tribute to the casualties of the Great War , and above all to the students of the school who lost their lives: they said the casualties' names. To end the remembrance ceremony, the Headteacher took the floor for a final speech after which all the students repeated “We will remember them” …

infirmerie de harry potter1VISIT OF OXFORD

On Thursday, 6th of November, we had an appointment at the Royal Latin School with all the French students. We took the bus at 9 a.m to go to Oxford. When we arrived, we visited the Museum of Natural History. We discovered different animal species, minerals and fossils. It was interesting and thanks to that we improved our scientific culture. After that, we had a free period for two hours. During that time, we went to the History of Science Museum. We saw the progress of Sciences through the tools of the different centuries. We also saw a black board where Einstein wrote calculations during a conference in Oxford.  In the afternoon, after our free time, we visited the University of Oxford. There was a chapel, a dinning-hall called “hall” by the students. During the visit with the guide, we saw colleges, their “quadrangles” (gardens), different buildings like libraries but also the room where the students get their degrees. To finish our day, we went to the center of Oxford where there were some English shops which propose different British specialties.
