Welcoming Ukrainian students – Year 3

We welcomed for the 3rd year in a row, a group of 32 Ukrainian students from the 24th to the 29th of March 2026. They come from the city of Chortkiv, which is twinned with Béziers.

Before actually meeting them, we had a series of visioconferences and discussed many topics, like the history of the city, the presentation of our high school, our traditions and so on.

During the week in March, at first we presented the high school and the french school system. Then we did a guided tour of the school, thanks to this tour the students could find their way in the school and take part in the orientation race organised by Laly and Yrine.

On Thursday we prepared a series of activities such as cooking, painting, music, sports (rugby, basketball, football…). At night we had a party in the conference room of the school.

A memorable moment was when they sang their anthem. They also spoke about their everyday life during the war.

With the penfriends, the students did a guided tour of the city of Béziers with the touristic train, and then we were invited to the city council to celebrate the partnership.

On Friday we had a picnic in The Plateau des Poètes, and then in the afternoon we went to the beach and enjoyed the moment.

What the french students said :

*This exchange helped improve their English level

*They learned about a new culture/new language

*They appreciated how involved the ukrainian students were, especially during the orientation race

*They said that they feel less shy now and that they built real friendships. They still speak with them on networks today.
