Club Débat en anglais : Should vote be made compulsory ?

Debate April 21st : Should vote be made compulsory ? Today vote is not compulsory, If you don't want to, you don't vote. But Lise thinks that vote doesn’t have to be an obligation, because obligation makes vote a chore. But if you don't go to vote you don't express your opinion, nobody hears you. But Cindy said that if nobody is coming to vote, it will be an event, so maybe it can be efficient. We disagree with the compulsory nature of vote. We can't force people who don't want to talk. However if we compel people who don't want to... [Lire la suite]

Club Débat en anglais : Debat school

Last week, Friday, March 17th, at the debate club we talked about the school and how it can be improved. First we mentioned the differences between middle school and high school, for us high school is better because we can choose the subjects that we want to study whereas in middle school we study everything and that can be the reason of some students’ difficulties. We also said that our school system with marks is not good for everyone because it can be motivating but really stressful for some students so we should try the “skills... [Lire la suite]

Club Débat en anglais : Could our consumer society manage without advertising ?

Before the Winter holidays at the debate club we talked about the place of ads in our society. First we said that ads are everywhere and have a strong influence on what people buy even if, sometimes, they don’t see it. To continue we conversed about children ads and we declared that ads are more powerful on children because they believe in anything. For example when a child sees a Barbie, he wants it. But we also said that it can be dangerous because some children ads are sexist. Then we wondered « Do stars in ads are more... [Lire la suite]

Club Débat en anglais : « Travels broaden the mind » Do you agree ?

Débat du vendredi 27 janvier 2017. Topic :  « Travels broaden the mind » Do you agree ?  We started by saying that travelling broadens the mind because it helps to discover and share other cultures in the world. Some countries have rich and interesting cultures like Ireland for example. Everyone has a dream destination, whether it is a hot country (like the west coast of the United States, California or Nevada) or a cold country (like Russia or Canada). Everyone has already travelled (to a foreign... [Lire la suite]

Club Débat en anglais : Is Modern society approaching gender equality ?

Débat du vendredi 20 janvier 2017 : Is Modern society approaching gender equality ?   We started by saying that, no, society doesn’t approach gender equality, because there’s still too much work to do, since most people think the problem is from the girls themselves, because it seems they are more likely to cheat on boys, than boys cheat on them. In this society, this kind of situation is more pointed out than its opposite. We then said that, contrary to general opinion, there are more girls going in scientific studies... [Lire la suite]

Club Débat en anglais : English debate club

Debate 06/01/2017   Are « veganism » and vegetarianism only a fashion or a new sensible and more human way to consume ?   Today, veganism is a fashion. But it will last as humanity will have to do that. Mass production as it is carried on today cannot go on endlessly. It will have to stop. Some people say that, if you are vegan, you will have health problems and you put yourself in dangers. But that’s false ! Veganism is maybe too radical ??? Vegetarianism is maybe a good middle way ? ... [Lire la suite]

Le Club Débat en anglais : Où il est question de pokémons et d'uniformes...

Debate n°1(30/09/16) Do you think reality games such as Pokemon Go can be harmful to teenagers ? Overall, there were more arguments criticizing the game than arguments underlining its positive aspects. To begin with the positive arguments, video games are not harmful to teenagers as long as you organize your time. Besides, it also allows you to meet people as you gather with other players. Yet, although reality games such as Pokemon Go can be considered as healthy as they encourage people to walk through their town, most... [Lire la suite]
