Travel in London and Cambridge summary

It was a very good travel in London with an amazing group

When we arrived in the Youth hostel called Clink 78 where we slept, I thought that we are going to have a very tiny space to sleep. But finally, the hostel was amazing and was very big.

The room with my five friends was cool because we had a good felling all together.

During our trip, the most excited moment was when we have visited a college in Cambridge. I didn’t think that a place like that will exist. It was a so amazing place, looking like what you have seen in Harry Potter’s Movies.

A lecture in Cambridge

Of all awesome moments of this trip, I think the one that pleased me the most was the conference given by Dr Peter Wothers about chemistry. The principle was quite simple to understand and really amazing to see, the theme being fire, flames and stuff like that : after setting fire to something, he did explain the chemistry behind the phenomenon. Overall, he just pour some liquid oxygen on every single flammable object he has, like wood, wool, or even a cupcake, with variations such as igniting some hydrogen or some propane. One of the most enjoyable moment was the explosion of a whooly bird, that wasn't expected to be as big as it really was. Overall, the conference was a real pleasure because it was a really funny moment I spent with my friends, and it wasn't boring at all unlike you could have expected.

About our London trip…

I decided to talk about the youth hostel where we slept. It’s called the "Clink 78", and it was one of my favorite place. Of course, I loved visits, discovery of London and monument but the Clink was very cool. It was funny because we were all together and the youth hostel was very animated and full of very nice commun rooms. It was an awsome experience to sleep there, and to share everything with my  friends of "Terminale" and teachers. Inside the Clink, we could do lot of thing like play the guitar or play pool… We also cooked and share the toilet but it was funny ! It was 4 very enriching days, funny, cloudy and especially great. We have shared and walk a lot, spoke English a little but also we came back full of memories. I recommend this trip to everyone and I want to say thank you to our teachers who accompanied us and prepared this trip.

Our trip to London (from March 18th to March 22nd)

It was an extraordinary experience shared with professors and friends... From the journey in the airplane to the accommodation at the Clink 78, all was wonderful. Everybody will keep a memory of this trip: the meals among friends, the collective visits, the evenings together, the games with the professors... all of that speaking English of course! we don't know which moment was the best, and so we will speak about a few memories. First of all, the reception at the youth hostel was pleasant: we were so happy to discover our bedrooms! The first day, we walked around Camden Town and visited Hyde Park. We also attended to some animations in Trafalgar Square in honour of St Patrick's day: so amazing! The second day, we took the bus to go to Cambridge. We visited the city, some colleges and museum, very instructive: it made us forget it rained! In the evening, we witnessed a conference named “Fire and Flame”, animated by a professor, about chemical reactions: what fascinating it was! Next the third day, we did a guided tour of London. We learned about famous monuments (Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey,...) and the history of London.

It was so interesting because the passionate guide told us some anecdotes and made an effort of language in order to allow us to understand the stories. We enjoyed very much and continued to go through the streets all the afternoon, without forgetting to buy some souvenirs for our loved ones. After a long walk around the city, it was time to return to the Clink 78 for the last night... but with music and sharing moments before sleeping. On Wednesday, we took the train to go to the airport and the airplane to return to France, a bit nostalgic and disappointed to leave this beautiful country, but happy to see our unlucky friends stayed in Beziers! At last, this trip was really pleasant and instructive for all of us, we hope it will be renewed in the next few years. Thank you very much to the organizers for their great work, and their English too.

To finish, if I have to conclude in one word: unforgettable!

I really enjoyed our travel to London. Indeed, everything was very good, the atmosphere and the group mind was great, I liked every visit or every activity we did... However, the visit of the center of London pleased me the most. The weather was perfect and our gide was very interesting. He told us anecdotes about British and London history, such as the trip back to England of Nelson's body, the presence of noses everywhere in the city, or how the revolutionary Guy Fawkes was expected to die. It was very interesting and I really enjoyed this visit.

My favourite part of the trip was the guided tour of the city. The guide was very interesting and he showed us a lot of wonderful places. First we saw the street who inspired the Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter movies, he told us that it was recreated in studios to shoot the scenes.

Then we saw a little castle, not very impresive but it was the first time we saw the royal guards. We walked to Trafalgare Square where we learned more about the monuments representing victories in French-english conflicts. After this we've stopped at the end of the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace, the Queen's castle, which is huge. The guid told us a very funny anecdote about a homeless who achieved to sleep in the Queen's bed with her! Then we crossed St James Park and finally, we stopped between the palace of Westminster and the Westminster Abbey. It was a great trip, we had a lot of fun and we learned more about London.

So, my trip to England with the school, how was it?

Personally, I enjoyed very much to go there and to visit London as we did. The city is beautiful and there was a great atmosphere in the group. This journey will stay in my mind for a long time else.

When I remember this travel, there are many moments that I would like to tell. One of them is the conference of the scientist Peter Wothers. During it, this man tried many ways to have the biggest and the most powerful combustion and so explosion at the same time. He ignited oxygen, dihydrogen, nitrocellulose (he tested this explosion on a bird model, and in less a second, the bird disappeared, it was funny), methane and so on… It was very interesting to assist to this conference in english that we managed to understand. I think I will remember this for a long time.

Moreover, another anecdote to tell, but this one didn’t make me laughing at first but now I’m laughing when I remember it. The first day, we had to prepare our dinner for the evening and I had a Lebanese meal which was not liquid, it was solid, I attest ! And just before entering the plane which led us to England, we had to pass to security of the airport. So I go there and the police officer who works there asked me to take out my meal from my bag and to open it. As he wasn’t sure if I can carry it in the plane, he wanted to dive a plastic spoon, to see if it was liquid, what it was not. After this, he wasn’t sure yet, so he showed the meal to his colleagues, and after he said me that he had to throw it, so he threw it, and just after he gave me back my spoon with a large smile on his face. So then, I had to buy a sandwich in the airport, but the fact he gave me back the spoon with a smile make me a little bit angry. But during the trip, we laughed a lot about that.

The moment that I remember the most happens on monday. In the morning when we were about to go to Cambridge, the underground was crowded and M. Stortz, Arnaud and me had to take the next one. But our station “Victoria” was unreachable because of an “equipment failure” so we had to stop at the station before it. We start to walk toward the bus station by foot and suddenly the teacher has received a call from Mrs Garcia saying that the other group also hasn’t get opportunity to reach Victoria Station so they stop at the next station. Furthermore, we started to accelerate in order to reach the bus station to get the bus that will have to take to go to Cambridge. And unfortunately, we walk in the wrong direction so we ran in the opposite direction. Finally, we have all reached the bus station in time and went t Cambridge in good conditions.
